Selection of countries and partners

In order to determine where a new programme can be launched, War Child analyses the conflict area and the organizations that work there. War Child prefers to collaborate with local organizations and assists in building their capacity. Partners may range from small community groups to national governments. When insufficient local organizations are present, War Child starts a programme on its own and will then look for local organizations that can carry on the work.
To decide on new program countries, we will identify priorities regarding (amongst others):
- Organizational considerations (management efficiency, finances, et cetera)
- Mode of intervention (Self implemented program or partner program)
- Type of intervention (Community based program, humanitarian relief program , psychosocial, peace building, advocacy)
- Regional focus
- Security risks
With a conflict analyses War Child assesses the type of conflict and phase of development in the area:
- Current phase of development in conflict affected area
- Type, status and duration of conflict
- Humanitarian aspects of the conflict affected area
Exit strategies
Depending on the program context, the main criteria for the exit of War Child are the ability of children and youth to grow up healthily and thereby contribute to a peaceful society. Secondly local institutions should take responsibility for the fulfillment of children’s needs and the realization of their rights.
