Objectives DR Congo
Objectives of the 2007 programme in DR Congo were:
- Increased capacity of local partner organisations to provide quality non-formal accelerated primary education, literacy and numeracy classes and vocational training to children and youth.
- Increased capacity of formal schools to provide quality formal education to children.
- Improved capacity of local partner organisations and schools to provide psychosocial support to children and youth.
- Increased institutional capacity of local partner organisations.
- Increased awareness of target urban and rural communities on the rights of the child and psychosocial needs of marginalised children and youth.
- Improved protection of the rights of children in conflict with the law.
In 2008 War Child will continue all programme activities that were implemented in 2007. War Child will continue capacity building and support of its partner organisations in Bukavu. The programme in two rural communities outside of Bukavu will continue to be developed.
Transparency and inclusiveness in the decision making process should be essential factors in order to build trust and mutual respect in the community.
Child rights committees will be set up and training will be provided to these committees as well as to school teachers and parent committees, and awareness raising events and fun days will be organised on a regular basis.
Furthermore, psychosocial trainings for other organisations working with vulnerable children (such as IDPs) are expected to continue and possibly be expanded. War Child will also continue its activities in favour of children in conflict with the law.
