Not registered, Chechnya is not an official country. There are approximately 18,000 registered Chechnyan Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s) in neighboring Ingushetia. In Chechnya itself, there are an additional 57,000 (IDP’s).
Main issues
Throughout the last few years the security situation in Chechnya appears to have stabilized considerably and a growing number of organizations are launching development programmes in the region. However, the situation in the area is still turbulent and a lasting political solution to the conflict is yet to be found.
