Meet Lamegie (12)

Due to violence and poverty, Lamegie was missing school and lagging far behind her peers. Then, she was enrolled in a three-month catch up class. Find out how she is turning things around...

"Now, I am learning Swahili, French and mathematics.”

What we do

Active in DR Congo since 2003, we now work primarily in the east of the country, in South Kivu and Kabambare territory in Maniema. Working with partners, we improve the futures of conflict-affected children and youth in DRC and neighbouring countries.

We focus specifically on child protection, education, economic empowerment and psychosocial support, which includes play and movement-based activities to help children deal with their emotions and overcome trauma. Our vocational and life skills training equips young people with the tools to find work, handle life's challenges and support one another.

We also set up youth groups where key community issues such as sexual violence and the use of natural resources are brought to the table.

  • Emergency Education Response

Fizi Territory, South Kivu, Eastern DRC
This UNICEF-funded project provides an inclusive and quality education for children affected by the humanitarian crisis in the Fizi area. It works with children at risk of dropping out of school due to conflicts and natural disasters by guaranteeing their retention and school completion.

  • A safe space for the most vulnerable children

Kalonge and Bunyakiri, Kalehe territory, South Kivu, Eastern DRC
This emergency project provides protection, reunification and reintegration services to some of the most vulnerable children in DRC. This includes supporting children associated with armed forces and groups (CAAFAG), unaccompanied children and survivors of gender-based violence as well as children affected by recent conflicts in the territory.
