PARENTS DEAL Module 1. Getting To Know Each Other

The module Getting to know Each Other is always the first module of the five Parent DEAL modules. The participants get to know each other and establish group rules. They share their experiences as parents and caregivers.

PARENTS DEAL Module 2. Challenges And Strengths

Parents define their strengths and the challenges they face with regards to the care and support of their children, and they determine a personal goal for the intervention.

PARENTS DEAL Module 3. Childhood

Participants gain an understanding of the psychosocial development of their children and the challenges their children may face. They will feel better able to support the healthy psychosocial development of their children in line with their cultural norms and traditions.

PARENTS DEAL Module 4. Rights and Responsibilities

Participants understand the concepts of rights in general and of child rights specially. Participants feel better equipped to assume their responsibilities to respect, protect, and fulfil their children’s rights on a daily basis and advocate for these rights together with their children.

PARENTS DEAL Module 5. The Future

This is always the last module of the five Parents DEAL modules. Participants reflect on the lessons learned during the intervention, including their personal goals, challenges, and strengths. They explore ideas on how they can continue to strengthen the care and support of their children. They decide if and how they want to continue as a group, in the future.

First I DEAL Module Identity and Assessment

The module Identity and Assessmen is always the first module of the six I DEAL modules. This module works to support children and young people in the development of a positive sense of self through creative exercises on identity. During these exercises, they will discuss who they are, share and compare their opinions, and express themselves.

I DEAL Module Dealing With Emotions

Participants develop tools to deal with their own emotions, as well as the emotions of others. They learn to recognise different emotions and understand their own reactions to them.

I DEAL Module Peer Relations

Children develop more tools to engage in positive peer interaction. They will identify and analyse the different relations they have with their peers and learn to deal with difficulties and conflicts in peer interactions. Children also learn how to give and receive support from others.

I DEAL Module Relationships With Adults

Participants gain skills to maintain or restore positive relations with important adults in their lives. The children become aware of their relationships with their caregivers. They learn to deal with difficult situations they experience with important adults.

I DEAL Module Conflict And Peace

Children gain the insight and skills to deal with conflicts. They become aware of different types of conflict. They analyse the causes and dynamics of the conflicts in their environment and learn peaceful ways of dealing with conflict.
