100& Change competition

The MacArthur Foundation today shortlisted Can’t Wait to Learn for the final stage of the 100&Change competition. The programme was recognised by competition judges for its potential to close the education gap for millions of children worldwide.

Each proposal has been evaluated against four criteria: that the programme is impactful, evidence-based, feasible and durable. MacArthur’s Board of Directors will select up to 10 finalists from these high-scoring proposals this spring.

All 100 shortlisted entries - including Can’t Wait to Learn - can be viewed on the Bold Solutions Network. The searchable online collection of submissions contains a project overview, 90-second video and two-page factsheet for each proposal.

Learn through play

Can’t Wait to Learn provides conflict-affected children with quality education - no matter where they live. Children can learn through playing educational games on tablet computers. All content is based on government-approved national curricula and includes both literacy and numeracy modules. Input from children informs the design of the games - serving to boost motivation and engagement.

Can’t Wait to Learn is implemented by a coalition, including Save the Children, Butterfly Works, &Ranj and Sheffield Hallam University. It is currenly active in six countries: Sudan, Uganda, Lebanon, Jordan, Chad and Bangladesh.

“War Child, together with our partners, are proud that our Can’t Wait to Learn programme has been short-listed as one of the highest-scoring proposals to help address one of the world’s critical problems," said War Child Holland managing director Tjipke Bergsma.

“Our coalition provides quality education and improves the overall wellbeing of hundreds of thousands of children affected by violence and armed conflict"
