What is the 'right support'?

One of the key goals of the International Peace Day Expert Session at De Staat Beach Pavilion in The Hague was be to gather expert knowledge on the impact of war on children, which will help inform the upcoming Global Ministerial Conference on Mental Health in October 2019, where we will play a prominent role. Our priority will be to emphasize the importance of building psychosocial care into children’s emergency assistance.

Keynote Speaker: Danny Ghosen

We were delighted to have welcomed renowned Dutch journalist and documentary filmmaker Danny Ghosen as our keynote speaker on the day. Ghosen has made several documentaries including Danny in Arabistan, where he exposed the world of youth living in the Arabic world. In his most recent documentary De slag om Libanon, Danny scrutinizes the tense situation in his motherland, based on conversations with residents of the country that he fled as a 15-year-old. As keynote speaker, Ghosen will reflect on his own experience of how war can impact children’s mental health.

Peace Sessions Festival

The day after the 'Peace Sessions - Expert' event we also held the Peace Sessions Festival. With this unique festival for all ages we were looking to thank our supporters for their help. Festival-goers got the chance to experience our activities for children first-hand through workshops, meeting our ambassadors and asking our experts and country directors about their experiences.

Leading actor in psychosocial support

For over 20 years, War Child has provided psychosocial support, protection and (emergency) education for children affected by armed conflict in some of the most violent and volatile areas of the world. As a lead actor in this field, we know the impact war has on children. These consequences can take on many forms - including feelings of fear, anxiety, and depression, as well as exposure to physical and sexual exploitation. Yet - with the right support - most children will be able to cope with the adversities they experience.
