War Child Support Switzerland

In 2017, War Child received the Jacobs Foundation Best Practice award. The Swiss-based charitable foundation praised War Child for its global efforts to improve the lives of children. This inspired a group of professional volunteers to form War Child Support Switzerland.

Inspired to take action

"The award was an amazing act of recognition,” says Tom Berkhout, founder of War Child Support Switzerland. “It immediately inspired me to promote War Child’s work here in Switzerland.” Tom quickly assembled a dedicated group of volunteers to support our cause. The core team has since expanded and, as of the beginning of 2024, includes a part-time employee and a group of five enthusiastic volunteers who are active in both Zürich and Geneva.

Our mission

War Child Support Switzerland is committed to raising awareness about War Child’s work and identifying fundraising opportunities; for example by collaborating with companies to link their corporate event to a charity or by approaching charitable institutions, companies and individuals who would like to support War Child's mission: To see no child be part of war. Ever.

Bringing people together

We work closely with War Child in the Netherlands by building on their expertise and experience. In recent years, we have built friendships with individuals, foundations and companies in Switzerland and organised major fundraising events, including gala dinners in Zürich, Montreux and Vitznau. Events such as these are a perfect way to bring people together and give them a better understanding of the importance of War Child's work, specifically the evidence-based psychosocial support we provide.

The work of War Child is closely linked to that of many other international organisations that have their headquarters in Geneva - including Save the Children, UNICEF, UNHCR and the United Nations.
