Meet Roda (12)

Despite narrowly surviving the first days of the Ukraine war, Roda is not short of dreams for the future.

"The teacher gets us to sit on a chair, close our eyes and make a wish - my wish came true!"

What we do

The war in Ukraine has become a protracted humanitarian crisis - leaving some three million children in urgent need of assistance. War Child has been providing support to refugee and local children since the onset of the conflict. In 2023, our emergency response evolved into an in-country programme with a focus on child protection and education.

At the centre of our work is our suite of evidence-based interventions including Can't Wait to Learn, our award-winning EdTech programme and TeamUp, an innovative play and movement-based method. These interventions are purposely scalable - they can be rolled out quickly wherever the need is greatest. You'll find them in Ukraine itself as well as Moldova, Romania, the Netherlands and beyond.

Our work also extends to collaboration with local organisations - we share expertise and strengthen their capacity in areas including child safeguarding, psychological first aid and inclusion of minority groups.

  • Can’t Wait to Learn

Can’t Wait to Learn offers children, both in and outside Ukraine, the opportunity to learn by playing educational games on a mobile app. The programme was developed together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and NGO Osvitoria and has also been proven to contribute to children's improved wellbeing. • TeamUp

By participating in TeamUp’s play and movement-based sessions, children on the move can release stress, process their emotions and regain trust in themselves and others. We train local volunteers and partner organisations in Ukraine and nine refugee host countries (Moldova, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Germany, Cyprus, the Netherlands, Greece and Italy) to use the method in schools and safe spaces. Take the TeamUp tour.
